Amy is the CEO of Agape Tennis Academy, which currently manages public tennis centers in Fountain Valley, California, Oxnard, California, and Atlanta, Georgia. The organization provides programming to over 15,000 tennis and pickleball players annually. She currently manages a staff of over 125 tennis and pickleball coaches, administrative professionals, and business managers. Agape’s management style, processes, and systemized to approach allows the organization to continue to scale.

Amy is certified by the USTA in Sports Science and High-Performance Player Development. She is certified in Tennis by the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR), Pickleball by the Professional Pickleball Registry (PPR), and platform tennis by the Professional Platform Tennis Registry (PPTR).

Amy is a coach, author, change expert and serial entrepreneur. Her personal and professional transformation systems show us how to infuse entrepreneurship with purpose, passion, and perseverance to create businesses that are bigger than the bottom line and positively impact communities.

Agape Tennis Academy at DeKalb Tennis Center was awarded Best of Decatur (2019-2023) for the fourth consecutive year in 2023, earning a spot in the Business Hall of Fame. In 2022, Amy and Agape received the City of Fountain Valley’s Kindness Award, an honor that recognizes Agape’s commitment to H.E.A.R.T.. Also in 2022, Agape Tennis Academy was selected as the Best Public Facilty by the Professional Pickleball Registry at the company’s annual conference, where Amy was also a featured speaker.

In 2021, Agape and Amy were recognized by the United States Congress, the California Legislature Assembly, and the County of Orange as one of Fountain Valley’s finest leaders, in recognition of her small business’ contributions to the U.S. economy. Most recently in Georgia in 2020 and 2021, Agape Tennis Academy received the Best of Decatur Award. This award is given to local companies in different categories that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community.

In 2019, Amy was honored as the PTR Georgia Member of the Year and Tennis Media Group named Agape Tennis Academy Organization of the Year. Agape Tennis Academy was selected as the GPTA’s (Georgia Professional Tennis Association) Program of the Year in 2018. In 2017, Amy was voted Tennis Director of the Year and Agape Tennis Academy was named 10 and Under Program of the Year by the GPTA. In 2016, Agape Tennis Academy was voted Community Outreach Program of the Year by the GPTA.

Amy currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia and in San Clemente, California with her two cats Zuki and Paix. She enjoys traveling, reading, business, living life to the fullest, all things outdoors, tennis, pickleball, golf, hiking, biking, surfing, and being in the ocean.

Annie Freeman brings an interesting decades-old mix of tennis experience and hospitality to her role as Chief Operating Officer for Agape Tennis Academy. She started playing tennis at the age of seven and has continued playing ever since. Annie was the captain of her Marist School team that won the National Championship for Tennis.

After studying engineering at Marquette University, for more than 25 years she combined her work as a popular sports bar employee with managing, merchandising and systems for Serious Tennis and Berkeley Hills Country Club. In addition to her challenging work with the expanding Agape Tennis Academy, Annie and her husband also help homeowners clear their houses of clutter and organize estate sales. They now live in Duluth with their daughter, Maddux, and fur baby, Lilly.

Coach Mike, a Certified Professional through the Professional Pickleball Registry (PPR) has been playing pickleball for over three years. In that short time Mike has won multiple gold medals in doubles tournament play. Mike believes in teaching his students the right way to play with a heavy focus on strategy, shot selection, and positioning on the court all while having fun playing the fastest growing sport in America.

Mike originally came from a tennis background where he competed at the 5.0 level for the Oxnard Tennis Center’s USTA team. The highlight of his tennis career was playing doubles against the Bryan Brothers!

Mike is a lifelong resident of Ventura County and currently lives in Camarillo with his daughter Amanda. When Mike isn’t on the tennis courts you can usually find him on one of the many local hiking trails.

With more than 40 years of professional training and teaching experience in public sector organizations, Luis is now applying his skills in tennis. Luis is an avid recreational player that holds a 4.0 USTA rating, and is currently working on obtaining his Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) certification.

Luis played collegiate baseball and believes that in many aspects, the values, knowledge and skills learned in baseball can be applied in tennis. He is committed to meeting each player where they are in skill level and helping them excel. Luis emphasizes that teamwork and fundamental skills development takes place in a dynamic and fun learning environment.

Luis enjoys playing tennis with his wife in Oxnard, where he has lived for the past 26 years. Luis is looking forward to working with you!

Coach Edna, is a native of Ventura County, with a rich history in tennis that began at the age of 10. She has competed in several USTA tournaments, both in singles and doubles divisions, and has achieved an impressive 4.5 ranking in Southern California Sectionals Tournaments. From 2010 to 2018, Coach Edna served as assistant coach for the Camarillo High School Boys and Girls tennis teams, leading both teams to CIF championship titles in their respective divisions.

In addition, she has devoted much of her time to training and developing her own college-level children. Coach Edna’s passion for tennis is fueled by her desire to constantly explore and implement the latest strategies and techniques to help her students achieve success on the court.

Coach Makayla’s tennis adventure began at age 8 with lessons that lit a fire for the sport. From 2006 to 2016, her focus was all about competitive play, participating in countless tournaments and sharpening her tennis skills. High school saw a stellar four-year stint on the varsity tennis team, acing both singles and doubles, and even competing in varsity track and field during the off-season.

But it didn’t stop there. Embracing a holistic approach to fitness, strength training became a key focus for longevity and overall wellness. Today, the thrill of rock climbing, the rush of snowboarding, and the freedom of road biking add excitement to her already active lifestyle. Sharing a passion for fitness and wellness, Coach Makayla finds genuine joy in helping others embark on their own fitness journeys.

Pickleball is more than just a game for Coach Merideth—it’s a passion. She’s been playing for two years and currently competes at a 4.0 level, constantly pushing herself to improve. Growing up, she played and excelled in a variety of sports, but pickleball has become her true love, capturing most of her time and focus.

As a coach, Merideth is committed to helping players build confidence in their game while developing their skills and deepening their love for the sport. Whether you’re brand new to pickleball or looking to elevate your play, she’s here to support, challenge, and guide you every step of the way. My coaching style is encouraging, focused, and tailored to each player’s goals.

Coach Merideth lives in Ventura with her wife, and they love traveling and discovering new restaurants to try. When she’s not on the court, you can probably find her exploring new places or enjoying great food. She invites you to join her on the court and take your game to the next level!

Coach Josh grew up in Thousand Oaks and has loved playing sports and competing his whole life. He played volleyball in high school, and his love for pickleball began when he was introduced to the sport in middle school. Since then, he has won multiple tournaments and has been playing competitively for the last four years.

A BYU graduate, he now lives in Ventura and runs sales and marketing for a local internet company. Outside of work, Josh is training for his first triathlon and second marathon, and he enjoys hitting the gym. He loves the beach, staying active, and helping others get better at the game.

Coach Rick played tennis at Texas A&M. He began teaching at the Jack Kramer Club in Palos Verdes, where he worked with Stella and Pete Sampras, the Gurney sisters, and Kim Po, who went on to win the Wimbledon Mixed title.

He was Head Pro at Wimbleton Sports-Plex in Memphis (3 years), the Ojai Valley Athletic Club (11 years), Memorial Park in Colorado Springs (2 years), and was the Tennis Director for the City of Ojai for 15 years.

He started World Team Tennis in Ojai (5 years before the USTA) and is currently in the 54th season. The plan is to bring WTT to Oxnard.

Coach Jolie was born and raised in Ventura, with a lifelong connection to tennis. Raised by parents who loved the sport, she developed a passion for the game early and went on to compete on the varsity team all four years of high school before continuing her career playing collegiate tennis at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Coach Jolie focuses on helping players sharpen technical skills, build confidence, and elevate their mental toughness. She is committed to pushing athletes to reach their potential while creating an environment that keeps the game motivating and fun. Jolie is excited to help you improve your game!

For a year, Marsha turned down invitations to play pickleball—until July 5, 2024. After that day, she knew she wanted more. Once she began playing in leagues at Agape, she quickly realized she was hooked! Since then, Marsha has competed in numerous tournaments and has developed a passion for improving her game, competing at a high level, and encouraging others to do the same.

Marsha’s competitive spirit began at a young age through her love of softball and soccer. Her passion for coaching started in 2010 when she began coaching both soccer and softball. Today, she continues to share that passion as a boys’ soccer coach at Oxnard High School.

Coach Marsha is excited to bring her energy, determination, and genuine love for helping others grow and reach their potential at Agape Tennis & Pickleball Academy.

Coach Brian, a Certified Professional through the Professional Pickleball Registry (PPR), has been playing pickleball for over three years. Brian brings a well-rounded racquet sports background to the court, with experience in tennis, squash, badminton, and table tennis. His coaching style is patient, beginner-friendly, and focused on helping students build confidence while learning the game the right way.

Born in Scotland and now living in Ventura, Brian enjoys sharing his love of pickleball with players who are new to the sport or looking to improve their fundamentals. He believes lessons should be encouraging, approachable, and fun, while giving students the tools they need to feel more comfortable and capable on the court.
